Voice Workshops

My voice workshops are great for anyone who wants to perform in public for the first time or for those whose vocal technique needs some polishing.

Workshop 1 A Confident Voice

A workshop to highlight the spoken word and help writers develop confidence in reading and performing their work. Participants can practise on a wide range of material: poems, excerpts from dramatic monologues, comic pieces and their own work. This workshop would suit anyone who wants to ‘stand and deliver’, whether they’re beginners or practised readers, rappers or sonneteers. There’ll be voice-freeing exercises and techniques to help the body relax and resonate, tips on microphone technique and time for individual work.

Workshop 2 A Confident Voice: Reading Your Poetry In Public

Poetry audiences are precious. Let’s make sure we don’t switch them off!

Too often poets don’t do their work justice because of a lack of vocal confidence. Particularly tuned to poets this workshop will focus on each participant’s particular vocal style and qualities. There will be time to work in a more detailed way, discovering the range of the body’s natural resonators and building confidence in getting the sound ‘out there’. Participants will be challenged to take a few more risks and tackle more demanding material. We’ll look at using different voices for different occasions and on matching the sound to the style of the material. Poets will practise on their own work as well as the poems of others.

Both workshops
Duration: 3 hrs, cost $300 (plus travel)
